An excerpt (short)A Chapter by Dennis WolfThe imposing white marble facade of the main mansion loomed over Vyr, its grandeur, made more stunning by the full moon's adoring silvery rays, mocking his frustration. Clenching his fists, the veins in his forearms bulging, "I demand to see Elara! She's my kin!" The guard, a towering figure clad in polished armor, remained impassive. "By order of the High Lord, no one is permitted to enter without a direct summons until tomorrow morning." Vyr's eyes narrowed, a dangerous, predatory glint flashing in them. "I am no ordinary noble! I am Vyr, Vice-Captain of the Dragon's Guard. My word should carry weight!" The guard's expression remained unchanged. "Your rank, while impressive, does not supersede the High Lord's decree." Vyr's anger surged. He could feel his control slipping. "You dare defy me?" The guard's voice, though calm, held an underlying threat. "I dare, Lord Vyr. Now, if you insist on causing a disturbance, I shall be forced to summon reinforcements." The sentinel's hand leaping to his sword's hilt froze Vyr's bubbling response. A flicker of doubt crossed Vyr's androgynous face. He knew that escalating the situation would only lead to more trouble. With a deep breath, he forced himself to calm down. "Very well," he growled, his voice low and menacing. "I shall return. But mark my words, guard. I will see Elara, no matter the cost." With a final, scathing glare, Vyr turned and strode away, his footsteps echoing on the cobblestone path. As he disappeared from view into the lush gardens of the front yard, his long blond hair trailing him like a cape. A smirk crept onto the guard's face. He had weathered many storms, and Vyr's outburst was merely a ripple in the grand scheme of things. He'd not make more of the situation now, but if Vyr was to return, he'd call immediately for reinforcements and arrest the nobleman on the spot. © 2024 Dennis WolfAuthor's Note
