The HallwayA Story by Delaney Thomas
Depression and sadness are not beautiful. If you think they are, you clearly aren't plagued with them. The way I see it, depression is like this: You are forced to walk down a hallway blind with knives lining the walls and floors. Every step you take, dozens of knives are cutting you at the same time and eventually, you either become numb to the pain or you bleed out until you're empty. When someone who doesn't have depression walks down the hallway, they can see just fine so they can navigate through the knives without getting cut. The only way to get the depressed person out of the hallway is for the happy person to guide the sad person along the path that they can see. The depressed person will still stumble and sometimes get cut, but they won't bleed out enough to become empty. To help someone recover from depression, the only way to succeed is to become their eyes and guide them out of the dark hallway and out of danger. That's all a depressed person really needs: just a happy set of eyes to see the light at the end of the hallway.
