Elysium

Elysium

A Story by Delaney Thomas

The bullet cracked through the air as he crumpled into the earth.
"No!" I screamed and ran to his attacker.
"I told you that you had to choose and you refused; he choose himself," cackled the villian. "There's no point in crying little girl; he's gone forever."
I tackled him and pulled the gun from his hands. "That was the last crime you will ever commit," I said and shot him through his skull.
I ran over to the body of my best friend and saw the blood and guts of him. I knew what I had to do.

The last thing I saw before the darkness was a bullet going straight for my brain. I opened my eyes to find I wasn't me anymore. I could see me but I wasn't in my body. I looked up as she tackled him onto the ground and shot him. She ran over to my body and started to cry. She put the gun up to her own head and pulled the trigger.

The sky was no longer dark, the clouds were no longer gray and foreboding. We were happy now, in a better place. There were no more villians or criminals, only birds and waterfalls to carry the days away. Everyday I could look next to me and see her sleeping peacefully in our bed and smile at her crazy hair. The only sad days we've had in this new place were the viewings of our funerals down below. Our families cryed and cryed but they knew we were in a better place. We didn't belong down there anyways. We belonged up here, with the clouds and the sunshine. We belonged in Elysium.
