A Requiem for LoveA Poem by DeLisaFor so long I’ve waited Sitting here in my Chuck Taylors With my hair pulled back A smile on my face Heart on my sleeve Anticipating Longing For the one called “Love” To come and sweep me off my feet Rescue me But so long I’ve waited in vain For the one called “Love” never came Not the real one, anyway Imposters have come Been exposed Stole away in the dark of night Like the anti-Christ trying to make me believe the hype But hype is hype and lies are lies And I’ve given up ‘Cause too hard I’ve tried Only to be deceived, have the wool pulled over my eyes By emotions disguised as the one called “Love” Like a wolf in sheep’s clothing Attempting to make me feel forever beholden To them But it’s not gonna work I refuse to ever again be hurt By someone or something disguised as the one called “Love” So I will sing a requiem for Love Say a eulogy for Love Take one last look at Love As it lays there, eyes staring towards the heavens Watching God Ashes to ashes Dust to dust And then I’ll bury Love Along with all the hurt, pain, and broken trust That has been poured on me Unyielding, unmercifully I will not cry for Love, though Because you can’t mourn what you’ve never known
