Hypocrisy

Hypocrisy

A Poem by DeLisa

Why do you practice one life style

But teach another?

Running around saying love thy

Neighbor as thy brother

When you don’t

Or else you just won’t

Hypocrisy

It doesn’t lurk in the shadows

It lurks in YOUR shadow

It trails behind you

Swimming in cracks

Makes you seem real shallow

When you talk behind people’s backs

Then you get up on your soapbox

And preach to me

Talk a hole in my head

But you didn’t bother to take heed

To anything you said

Yeah, homey

That’s real phony

But when Hypocrisy is confronted

By someone it’s wronged

Hypocrisy makes you feel fronted

Jumps to the defensive

And starts singing a different song

So you lie

And say you’ve never uttered

Those words before

Knowing damn well

Just the night before

You went on a big spiel

About someone else’s gender

Someone’s social escapades

Who’s dating who

Who’s getting laid?

Hypocrisy grabs you by the nose

And sticks it in other folks’ business

But when you’re the one

Being discussed

You wanna get ignorant

Hypocrisy makes you tell me

‘Don’t say that’

But when you get around THEM

You say that

Then you try to play that

Innocent role

But you’re not fooling anyone

Because everyone knows

How you are

And who you are

So with that insincerity

And

Duplicity in your heart

You won’t get very far

Although you think you will

Hypocrisy makes you have to

Get down on your knees every night

And ask your god for forgiveness

For the same s**t

Every night

Same s**t, different night

I don’t think that’s right

But Hypocrisy makes you

Who you are

If you weren’t a hypocrite

I wouldn’t even recognize you
