You Can't Keep a Dreamer DownA Poem by Donald ColeIt may be hard to hold a dreamer up But you can't keep a dreamer down And as long as it has been by now I'm finally coming around In my life, I've come to know you're not a dreamer At least not with me I'd say I could only be true, in my love for you Through the years, all but hidden away In my life I've found love And I've watched it go astray It seems I've been picking up the pieces Since I've watched us slip away You took my heart by surprise I'd hardly had a clue But then you also tossed it just aside How'd I know not what to do? I'd thought when you love someone That love, til death do us part I could've died when we walked away But death, it didn't even start And for love to mean so much to me I'm not sure I really knew The only love I was granted Was 'to thine own self be true' Ah, love, it doesn't just go away It just takes time to grow Even love in its own right Is something we'd come to know Sometimes it just takes hanging on Even despite the letting go And other times its just to recognize And share even what we don't want to show I'd never would've been a dreamer If I didn't have a dream or two I never could've come to realize... If I never had a dream of you. Don C © 2012 Donald ColeFeatured Review
