Beckon to the Little Ones (Casualties of the System)A Poem by Donald ColeA call for changeOf the law that bends the truth A system blind to the reality Of the collateral damage of our youth Just for sake of money To keep grease on the wheel That’s broken by deceit in the law Denying just what’s real I know I’ve had my issues And struggle through the same When compounded with the legal lies Of the ‘protected’ that play the game For one to lose everything For a mistake made, you’ll see Is to cast him to the wolves With hardly a chance for recovery The system that’s perpetual Self sustaining in its own right To become productive in society, to start again Becomes an overwhelming fight A nation built on dreams Barely offered in a locked society That can break a man locked inside out Condemned by the righteous with the righteous iniquity What about the effects Begun onto the little ones In a system that perpetuates itself Without a remedy begun Sure, there are two sides to this With the scales of justice on the brink When they make victims of the families they serve Will bring our society to sink To offer a new way with hope Giving human sacrifices, opportunity to show They are not faceless ‘numbered’ dollar signs They are people, with families, to grow This won’t work for everyone There’s always some casualty To err on the side of hope would change the world Building more positive society
