Let me keep it real.  Ugh.  Wait.  Did I really just write that? 

I hate that f*****g phrase.  It's so lame.  It means nothing, I mean, seriously

how many people are TRULY doing that?

Not a lot.  Definitely not.

 

But anyway, all that is so beside the point.

I won’t even keep it real. I’ll keep it honest. 

For you, I'll definitely keep it 100% honest.

Honestly,

I told you about how I am when we met.

I told you that I wasn’t the

Being-in-a-relationship-damn-near-married type.

I told you I wasn’t the

Oooh-catch-me-I’m-fainting-just-because-she-asked type.

I coulda sworn I said I wasn’t the

Wine-me-dine-me-to-make-me-wanna-wife-you type.

I thought I made it perfectly clear

That I don’t need you to define me.

It isn’t she that defines me, either.

At the end of every day, honestly,

it’s just me.

Honestly,

I told you about my heart when we met.

I told you that I wasn’t

Ready to love anyone else because

I still loved her.

I told you that I wasn’t

Ever going to want to deal with a bunch

Of drama.

I coulda sworn I told you that I really do like you

And I do.

I thought I made it perfectly clear

That we should let things happen naturally. 

Easy does it.

What’s the big rush anyway?

I’m just saving you (or us) from

Disappointment. 

 

Because listen,

To love someone else is to

Give yourself to them

To allow them to see you,

The real you, for all your

Flawed exquisiteness

Genius ignorance

Accurate wrongs.

Once you allow them in,

You give them your whole heart,

You’re at the top of the world,

Looking down at everyone who can’t possibly

Fathom

Embrace

A love like this one.

It is immaculate.

Once you’re at the top,

You can only come down.

So, honestly, love opens up a

Realm of possibilities.

 

And on the real (scratch that) - HONEST side of everything:

Possibilities afford disappointment

(dust yourself off, and try again)

 and

When I’m ready to be disappointed again,

Honestly,

You’ll be the first to know.

I liked that line the most. It leaves the reader (me) with a bitter feeling.
