She Gets The Best Of You

She Gets The Best Of You

A Poem by Dawn McKinney

I lay here thinking of you

Thinking of our lives untrue

Wishing it was me next to you

Wondering why she gets the best of you

I wish it was me instead of her

I don't know why I didn't see that before

Remembering when you first walked in my door

The sparkle in your eye showed you wanted more

I was too naïve, too swept into my own greed

To know you were exactly the one that I need

I sit here dressed up waiting for your call

But the phone isn't ringing and I don't hear you at all

I don't know why I keep pressing on

But I know it's time to say so long

Unfortunately this happens in life when either people drift apart or some people are not worthy of our love. Good poem reflecting these emotions
