I wish to present myself for failure

I wish to present myself for failure

A Poem by Davina

I wish to present myself for Failure,
Abysmal, abject failure,
Should it transpire to be my fate.
Though a lifetime of cowardly skulking perhaps has made me late?
.
But if this fellow Failure is indeed my dinner date,
I'll toe the line and be on time,
I'll be sublime.
I'll be a gushing, gracious guest, shake Failure's clammy hand.
I'll be oh, so fiercely and convincingly grand.

Dressing to impress,
I'll wear my best raggedy dress.
We'll drink exceptional champagne from dainty crystal flutes.
And to all the failures Failure's had we'll pay good and proper tribute.

Our drinks will be bubbly and fizzy.
Failure will get into an drunken tizzy.

My cue to go powder my shiny nose.
While drunken Failure tucks into his hors d'oeuvres.
Minutes later, he'll slither slowly from his chair,
Completely unaware.
 I'll take my chance,
Make my escape,
From Failure's unnerving dance.

Take some opportunity for a midnight tryst,
With that other fellow,
The one they call Success.
I've thought of him often,
And fondly, I must confess.

This is great piece! We all struggle with failure and success and your poem emoted that very efficiently. I love how you ended the poem, putting failure behind you and thinking "fondly" of success to put in its place. Great work!

Thanks Karen. Nice to hear.
What a playful dance with words and thoughts, the losses of life so often in the lead. Your words made me smile, made me think, made me wish for more.

Thank you so much. I'm delighted with your comments and glad to have made you smile. Davina
Dear Davina,

We all must brave a date with failure if we're looking for success. Both follow the common pathway of light. And meeting success, I think one dreads failure even more. Still we must have courage or we can't proceed forward.

An excellent message.

Very best regards,

Rick
