A City Kid's Rural Renaissance

A City Kid's Rural Renaissance

A Poem by davidwrites

Dragged from the concrete jungle's grasp,
Young Tyler, eyes glued to his phone's glass,
Grumbled and groaned, "No Wi-Fi? No TV?
How am I supposed to survive out here, ma?"

The countryside, a foreign terrain,
Devoid of skyscrapers and neon's reign,
Felt like a prison, a digital detox imposed,
His thumbs itched for the screens he knew, composed.

But then, a pack of furry ambassadors
Bounded up, tails wagging, nature's harbingers,
A dozen dogs, their unconditional love
Melted his heart, a gift from above.

As twilight fell, the sky unveiled its splendor,
A celestial tapestry, a sight to render
Tyler breathless, his eyes transfixed,
On the Milky Way's glittering cosmic mix.

The stars danced, the night whispered secrets old,
Nature's symphony, a tale untold,
And in that moment, his soul awakened,
To the beauty he'd been blind to, now taken.

The concrete jungle faded, a distant memory,
As he embraced the countryside's wild reverie,
A city slicker transformed, his heart now pure,
Falling in love with nature's endless allure.

I once was a city girl (NYC) until i married and moved to the burbs.... it was shocking at first...because i needed to drive everywhere... it took about 5 years for me to really enjoy the sunsets, the moonbeams the north star and all of the cosmos... and now I'm a country girl loving nature, hiking, gardening.... and i don't even enjoy urban life...you showed me the way....in your very vivid piece...let's give one hurrah for country living!!!! Warmly, B
