The PullA Poem by David W Moore IIII climb ten thousand steps And climb ten thousand more Until I reach the penthouse suite Of the Tower of Babel Store And through the diamond sky For lo and many miles With Galileo's sword I could see my Lucy smile But looking out is not a sin And looking in, naught is found And gravity pulls My eyesight down And down And down And farther down Like a lemming drawn Across the ledge I follow myself To the very edge Lucy sings her siren song Hoping to at least distract Speaking tongues in harmony A hundred thousand stacked I struggle to discern her voice But my soul is locked edgeward bound And gravity pulls My eyesight down And down And down And farther down I'm not a Shakespeare fan Not Hemingway, not J Kennedy Toole But looking down, I see the sun A mesmerizing, hypnotic jewel It draws me in with such a promise Waves of truth, rays of escape It's undaunted smile Flaps like Superman's cape Another step and I start my life A vertical journey without sound Once my flight begins Gravity pulls me down And down And down And farther down © 2014 David W Moore IIIReviews
