Faces of the Dead

Faces of the Dead

A Poem by David P. Eckert
"

Inspired by the recent death of someone whose visual image remains vivid

"

Faces of the dead

Float vibrant in my head

More than any vision

Of solid living flesh

As if mass is optional

Like a bonus question

On a test of eternity

That toothy grin

Reflects the light

While your dark skin

Shines with it

My mind’s candelabra

Bright as the sun

Illuminating

A lingering essence

So what is death? Is it not just dysfunctional relationships between atoms and molecules? A bonus question would be for me, where do all souls meet? Is there a home for consciousness? I liked the alliteration on the end :)
