The Lioness (for K)A Poem by David P. Eckerta tribute to a friend who is now no longer on WC
The Lioness (for K) Lioness twins, cut off from their pride Hunt their way through fire and stone Cross hyena-borne devastation Searching for a pride to call their home Never cubs, they bear their war scars Hidden far beneath The glorious forms and fur That God’s bequeathed Along their path were other prides, Protection vowed by day But never great Moufasa king Whose roar kept hordes at bay As fire forges crystal, While hunting still they yearned Their beauty shines through day and night All life’s lessons learned. Protect those you call precious Protect them tooth and nail Judge others as they treat you Love fiercely, fully, never fail The twins forged their own prides at last With cubs born beauties in the light Taught love, held, protected Not left alone to fend and fight. Sadly one lioness was lost Too early but she shines above The other vows to carry on Turning battle scars to love. © 2008 David P. EckertReviews
