Maxwell Smart Woke With A Start

Maxwell Smart woke with a start,

his coif swept thick and perfect.

Not any lies had crossed his eyes

as he lay in wait for Deitrich.

And Ninety-nine she looked divine

adorned in sixties’ rages;

from toes to nose she wore great clothes

straight from the fashion pages.

The pair extols virtuous Control’s

bumbling tries to silence Kaos;

from silent cones to locker gnomes

these cold war reds can’t beat us.

Would you believe one more reprieve

as cool Smart flirts with danger?

Six dozen cops? A dozen fops?

Or maybe just his pager?

And Deitrich smiles while all the while

Smart’s gal comes right behind him,

her pistol primed and smirk sublime

as the Chief has come to join them.

We loved Get Smart deep in our hearts,

his nose crunching in the doorway.

No epitaphs of cold war laughs

can lead our hearts astray.

I absolutely adored this - what a wonderful way to tribute a great show. Even if someone never watched the program (eh, youngsters, lol) they can catch a vibe from what you express here - which is also pulled off really well with fabulous writing.

Rhyming poems are a b***h to do and pull off well without "forcing" them - and this is anything but forced...it's a great ride.

Wonderful job.

This is sweeeeeet. A solid good-time memory lane ode to a classic show. I can hear the music with this one. Seinfeld's Uncle Leo was a regular on the side of Kaos... ...nice write David...Smart was always just bumblingly efficient enough to get the job done, but this falters, none and exceeds by far, in honoring the show. dig it.

Ahhhh.... Maxwell Smart! I can see him now with his slick black hair, brown eyes and that funny voice. Very nice write with imagery that knocked the socks off me. Loved it! Thank you for presenting this fine piece to me.

Oh man I remember this show! I used to laugh so hard I'd cry. Great tribute and nice to know there's someone else out there who thought this totally cheesy show was great.
