Even Sheltering Trees May FallA Poem by David P. EckertThoughts about the unexpected death of someone I knew long ago. (For Amy)
Even Sheltering Trees May Fall Even sheltering trees may fall if the wind gusts grow fierce or a spark burns its way. I read your obit with surprise to see a name I knew, a living, vibrant girl back when. It’s thirty years since that curly mop shone atop your head. since we drove home to NY sharing a ride in my Saab dropping you at your parents’ door. The words tell the woman you’d become, the lawyer and advocate, parent and wife. It doesn’t voice your fear at giving back a life well-lived as that spark caught fire inside you. © 2008 David P.
