Sunset Explodes Into Morning

Sunset Explodes Into Morning

A Poem by David P. Eckert

Sunset Explodes Into Morning

Sunset explodes

lemons and tangerines

before the slate blue sky turns navy.

The battle between day and night

reflects on wrinkled water,

colors splashed on the waves’ furrowed brow

in contemplation of the night.

Your eyes are deepest

when the light softens with dusk,

mirrored lenses to the sky,

your inky depths hidden

beneath the sinking sun’s reflection,

leaving me ashore

with a sly promise of something more.

In the dark small hours of night,

As crickets chirp

with knees in frantic motion

their songs of love reborn,

as the air spreads its moist blanket,

I become an alchemist,

transforming wishes into tender love.

By morning light,

day winning the latest battle with night,

the crickets’ chorus silenced

and wan wishes turned to dust,

Sol’s harsh light has burned

the Sandman’s last darling dreams

from my star-struck eyes.

WELCOME BACK!! I missed reading your work, and written here is a fine example of why! What a lovely contemplative piece. Once again you use visuals and imagry to put your reader right into the picture. I was there. Watching the sunset. The reflections on the moving waters. What a relaxing calming experience. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Welcome home, my friend. You left a small void behind.

The transition of the color of the sky in a kaleidoscope of color is remarkable. And the wording transport one to another world. T

Hey David this is a vivid description with so much color and fantastic words, although it's a sad romantic poem I can relate to all that it tells us. Nice to see you back writing again.
