To Walk With DeathA Poem by Not here
All around me is an empty house;
nothing stirs, not even a mouse. I search in the corners for my missing hope because if I've lost it there's no way to cope. Chaotic and manic, my heart beats fast still, working up a sweat that drips onto the sill as I look out the window at the place where I died and wonder how much darker it is inside. Everything is frosty here, frosty there, everywhere. Cold shivers rack me here, makes my hair stand aware. Goosebumps attack my skin as within I begin to fight a civil war with a grin against my kin. When Death comes knocking at the door, I will not cower away. Death is a peaceful release from the horrors of my day. When Sadness seems to take me on a journey far away Death's always there to pet my hair and give me one more day. Death is no enemy of mine; he is my only friend. We talk at night and talk at day when our journeys begin. They take us far away from here, into a land of night and looking back over my shoulder I can see the light. He beckons me to hurry on; who am I to refuse? Death has no patience with me, still, I'll never be excused. The path we wander he has tread with many others too. I wonder if one night he will be walking it with you. At last we reach the city gates I'd have been glad to see if it weren't for the city gates staring right back at me. Large eyes filled where there should be air, and space began to shrink. I turned to ask Death for his help; he only gave a wink. And so I write this, quickly now, before I lose the chance. If ever Death tries to help you, you must refuse his dance. To dance with him is to dance with Death and it will soon make sense. No matter how happy you feel, there can be no pretense. Death is a killer; Death is the thing that takes me on along. But Life in Death is a chance to sing a new and happy song. To walk with Death is certain to lead you to the deep grave. Why waste a Life that you can use, so many others to save?
