Chivalry

Chivalry

A Poem by David Carlson

Chivalry

There’s the girl who’s hurt and falling deep
in dark streets, hungry, alone.
There’s another who cannot find her way
whose heart’s as cold as stone.
A girl who thinks she’s found her man
but is proved wrong by his fist,
and the one who has been hurt so much
it’s one unending list.
And there are those who have been greatly blessed
with friends and families kind,
and those who want to do God’s will
but don’t know how to find.

All these, whether they know or not,
or only know life’s sting,
are—every one—fair princesses
and daughters of the King.
Deserving all the care and love
from sons of God who know
beyond a doubt, their worthiness
and greatest love will show.
These men are out there, seeking for
the queen God has for them,
each prince will see his lovely girl
and call her Precious Gem.
