April FoolA Poem by David Leeo1.o4.o9 is a date that means too much to me. I wrote this in the hope of never letting that day go, even if the memories hurt.
It was the first day of the month,
It was the fourth month of the year. I couldn't help it. How you lured me in, step by step, with utmost beauty as your bait. I couldn't save myself, the trap shut down, and my heart saw no escape. It was the credits at the end of the movie, A perfect movie ending. With your fingers between mine, and our love between our hearts, With your smile as mine, and mine as yours. With the stars gazing down upon us, and the midnight moon waiting on us. "What could possibly go wrong?" But every story has its climax, and the Sun has to eventually set. You left me be, writhing in agony. You replaced our quiet whispers, with accusations, lies, and denials. The fangs were bare, the poison set. You walk away, and I stand sad. It was the first day of the month, It was the fourth month of the year. When jokes were played, and fools were made. When I fell for the trap. When I thought there was trust. When this fragile heart, you eagerly broke. I guess I was an April Fool. © 2010 David LeeAuthor's Note
