The Age of Fear

The Age of Fear

A Poem by Dave Snyder
"

Reflective poem looking at the difference in my psyche in my mid-thirties compared to my youth.

"

Thick, viscous sorrow streams steadily

From my head, unhurriedly down my neck,

To my sternum. My chest, once strong and

Barreled, is now meek and hollow.

The arrogance of youth has given way

To the fears of experience,

And Time gives no quarter.

There is no immunity from inevitability,

Only release.

Adults are fragile creatures. Their strong emotion can crumble with the smallest crack for they have accepted their fear as it was their own child. As a adult one may think that all sin arises from love or that one is too old too act childish, but the truth is: Adults are so strongly bound by the chains of fear that they have forgotten how colorful the world can be when unshackled from ones chains. Atone for the time that has been lost, it is never too late to revert ones heart back to where it was not bound by fear. Ones appearance may change as ones life progresses but ones inside does not have to progress as well. Fate hangs heavy on ones hand, release from the arrogance of adulthood and live life as a stronger adult, unbound by fear!

I really like your poem. It neatly describes the difference between you and your younger self. Good job :)
