And people say her heart's as pure as the angels above but she gives herself away every time she falls in love. She’s got a hole in her soul and it looks like God's silhouette, she’s hasn’t found her way back to Them yet. She tries to fill herself up with dreams, ideas and fantasies. Anything that feels like small ecstasies. The comfort of another’s arms, what you think is love blazing in his eyes, or the rush of an inspiration high. It’s all the same, fleeting, temporary, in reality, in her mind. Doesn’t matter where it’s playing, the film eventually runs dry. And she’s left pure but empty handed. What’s purity got to do with sanity? Doing the same thing over and over running the wheel until it spills over and over and over into another, thoughts racing each other. She puts her hand on her heart and asks what do you need. Her hearts reply is more of a plea. Stop attaching me to things like strings pulling me around I can’t breathe. Fill your spaces in between with something more solid than a dream. She held her heart close and said she was sorry she fell asleep from exhaustion and when she awoke heard a soft whisper, the sound of God's light growing within her.
This is a good poem Daryn. I think many can emphasize with its message and see themselves or someone they know in it. This line for instance reminds me of a few people in my life:
"She tries to fill herself up with dreams, ideas and fantasies.
Anything that feels like small ecstasies."
Life can be such a long journey for those trying to understand love and its many complications. Sometimes our failures of love stem from us not first learning to love ourselves. Thank you for sharing this very thoughtful piece of poetry with us.
