The Bad ContractA Chapter by DarrinReay FADE IN: EXT. BEACH - MORNING The waves toss a TALL, MUSCULAR MAN onto the sand. He lies there. A noise of loud car engines makes him lift up his head to see: THREE REINFORCED ARMORED TRUCKS. Getting closer to the muscular man. He tries to push himself to his feet but he collapses. The armored trucks come to a stop just inched from the mans body. Five MILITIA get out of each truck, carrying heavy weaponry. They look down at the man, weapons pointed towards him. One Militia grabs his gun, smacking it off of the muscular man, knocking him unconscious. He takes out handcuffs and ties the mans hands behind his back. They drag him across the wet sand and throw him into the back of one of the armored. They all pull away and begin to drive back the way the came. INT. ARMORED TRUCK - MOMENTS LATER The muscular man wakes back up. The attempt to open up his eyes is painful. One Militia is looking down at him, smiling. He takes out a pistol, placing it inside of the mans mouth. MILITIA 1 Hello sunshine. Welcome to your worst nightmare! Militia 1 pulls the trigger and we - CUT TO: OVER BLACK: We hear the sound of light footsteps, as if somebody is sneaking. DIABLO (V.O.) Many people have an irrational fear of the dark. They all believe that monsters are hiding within the darkness and you know what? They're right. (beat) They call the dark evil. I call it an ally. FADE IN: The darkness turns into a shadow which lingers down a dark alley way. We see the outline of a man. TALL. MUSCULAR. He steps forward, revealing us it's the man from the beach. This is DIABLO. EXT. ALLEY - NIGHT The man is standing there. WAITING. PATIENT. He goes into his pocket and removes a line of GARROTE WIRE, holding it firmly in his hands. DIABLO (V.O.) Patience is the key. Without patience, you can't get into my line of work. You need to not only wait for a very long time, you need to be silent. You need to be a shadow. A ghost. The sound of footsteps getting closer. Diablo GRIPS the Garrote Wire, ready to jump in for the kill. DIABLO (V.O.) Timing is equally important. Go in at the perfect moment and things will sail smoothly but go in too soon or too late and things can get pretty bad rather quick. A BEARDED MAN walks down the alley way, sparking up a cigarette as he stops right next to the shadow where Diablo is hiding. Diablo lifts up his arms, moving them towards the bearded man... and in a fast motion, he wraps the wire around his throat, strangling him to death. The man is near death, taking his last few breaths. Diablo puts his mouth next to the mans ear. DIABLO (whispering) Go now. Be at peace. The man dies in Diablo's arms. He takes out a SCALPEL and ROLLS up the mans sleeve. He begins to carve into it... we don't see what it is. He stands up, placing the scalpel into a bag and then walks back into the shadows. We zoom down onto the mans face, getting closer and closer onto it until his face is overtaken with blue flashing lights. We zoom back out to reveal the body is now in the centre of a crime scene. FORENSICS are taking photographs and POLICE OFFICERS are guarding the perimeter. LIEUTENANT (O.S.) What we got? We pan around to reveal the LIEUTENANT standing. A Forensic stands up. FORENSIC C.O.D is asphyxiation due to strangulation. (points to ligature marks) My guess is the killer used some sort of Fiber Wire as the murder weapon. There is... something else. Lieutenant looks up, intrigued. LIEUTENANT What is it? FORENSIC He left a marking. A symbol. Forensic rolls up the mans sleeve, revealing a symbol. The letter D is engraved into the mans arm. FORENSIC (CONT'D) He's left us a calling card. His own little sick joke. Lieutenant is taken aback. His eyes widen as if he recognizes the marking... he stumbles back. LIEUTENANT I've saw this marking before. A few years back... I guess the son of a b***h has came back. CUT TO: INT. HOTEL ROOM - NIGHT Diablo enters the hotel room. He quickly makes his way over to another room which is the bathroom. He looks into the mirror at himself. He begins to remove his clothing. First his leather black gloves... then his jacket and finally his shirt which then reveals a muscular body which is covered in scars. BETHANY (O.S.) Successful? Diablo smiles as he turns around to come face to face with a beautiful blonde. This is BETHANY. DIABLO You know it. Bethany walks up to Diablo, stroking her hands against his scarred body. She looks at them. BETHANY I see you haven't learned your limits, honey. DIABLO In my work, I have no limits. I do whatever I need to do in order to complete a contract. Even if it does mean a few scars. Diablo kisses her and then walks back into the main room. He opens up a cupboard revealing: THREE PHOTOGRAPHS. One of the bearded man he has just killed and the others are of two other men. He lifts up a MARKER PEN and he draws an X over the bearded mans face. DIABLO (CONT'D) One down, two to go. BETHANY How you gonna get the other two? They're hold up in Smithson Hotel surrounded by undercover police. DIABLO With a little help from my friends. Diablo picks up his phone, he searches through his contact list and we see a name called: GADGETS. He dials. DIABLO (CONT'D) I need to see you. CUT TO: INT. GADGETS BASE - LATER Diablo knocks on large steel doors. They suddenly begin to creak open, revealing a huge underground base. A man is stood at the doorway. DIABLO Tom. TOM D. What do you need? DIABLO Do you still have the phone which has built in sonar and live tagging? Tom smiles. He walks off towards a large, oak desk and taps four times on the top. Drawers SLIDE OPEN. Tom puts his hand in one and takes out an IPHONE. TOM I believe this is what you're searching for. (pause) Hi-tech phone right here. Sends out high frequencies and records a response time for the environment. It will record any living being within seventy feet. Tap on the silhouette of the people and you will tag them. Diablo smiles, looking impressed. Tom hands the phone over towards him. He goes to leave. TOM (CONT'D) Aren't you going to stick around to see what weapons I have for you? Diablo stops. He turns around, looking interested. INT. GADGETS BASE - MOMENTS LATER Tom drops a case onto the oak desk. He types in a combination and it beeps. He opens it up. Diablo looks down, laughing. DIABLO Now you're just showing off. Inside the case is a: DRAGUNOV SNIPER RIFLE. It's made of PURE GOLD. DIABLO (CONT'D) How much did this cost to make? TOM Free. If you know who to steal from. (laughs) But the gold isn't the best part. Tom takes out a SNIPER SCOPE from the case. This too is pure gold. He attaches it to the sniper rifle. TOM (CONT'D) Take a look through that. Point it at the wall. Diablo takes the sniper rifle, he looks through the scope and points it at the wall. He looks impressed. We are looking through the scope. What we see: X-RAY VISION. THE SCOPE IS LOOKING STRAIGHT THROUGH WALL AND WE CAN SEE SOMEBODY IN THE SHOWER. TOM (CONT'D) Tell me, what can you see? DIABLO I believe I see your wife in the shower. Diablo laughs as Tom snatches the gun away from him. He places the golden gun back into the case. TOM So do you want it? DIABLO I'll take it. TOM Payment first. Diablo goes into his suit pocket and takes out a roll of money. He throws it at Tom and then takes the case from the desk. He walks out of the base. CUT TO: EXT. ROOFTOP OPPOSITE SMITHSON HOTEL - NIGHT Diablo enters the rooftop, carrying the silver case in his hand. He approaches the edge of the roof. A huge sign shines on the opposite building. It reads: THE SMITHSON HOTEL! He opens up the case, taking out the sniper rifle and placing the scope onto it. He stares through it. We are looking through the scope. What we see: HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ON DIFFERENT FLOORS. ON THE TOP FLOOR THERE ARE TWO PEOPLE. THESE ARE THE TWO MEN. Diablo aims at one of them, pulling the trigger. We follow the bullet through the air... smashing into the wall of the Smithson... then going through the head of one of the men. He drops to the floor, dead. Another shot can be heard... firing through the wall and hitting the other man, killing him. Diablo takes out the sonar phone out of his pocket, activating it. It scans the floors below him. We see loads of police running up the stairs... Diablo begins tagging them to get their constant location. He runs off the rooftop. INT. STAIRWELL, FLOOR 12 - CONTINUOUS He is running down the stairs. A police officer walks out of a door. Diablo jumps... giving him a right hook, then a left before kneeing him in the face, knocking him out. Another police officer walks out, again Diablo punches him, knocking him unconscious. Diablo drags both bodies up the flight of stairs, throwing them out onto the roof to hide them. He then begins to run back down to stairs, constantly checking the sonar phone. INT. STAIRWELL, FLOOR 5 - CONTINUOUS As he approaches the fifth floor, five police officers confront him. He slowly raises his hands in the air as one of the police officers approach him. As fast as lightning, Diablo knocks the police officer's machine gun out of his hands... spinning him around and he takes the officer as a HUMAN SHIELD. He draws the police officers gun from his holster and shoots all the remaining officers through the head before snapping the HUMAN SHIELDS neck. He runs through the door and we are - INT. HALLWAY, FLOOR 5 - CONTINUOUS The hallway is full of police officers running towards him, shooting but missing. Diablo barges into a hotel room to his right... INT. HOTEL ROOM, FLOOR 5 - CONTINUOUS He runs to the other side of the room, jumping into the PLASTERBOARD and smashing straight through into the next hotel room. Police officers are chasing him from behind. Shooting but missing. Diablo keeps jumping and smashing through the plasterboard. He runs back out of the door... INT. HALLWAY, FLOOR 5 - CONTINUOUS He looks behind him. There are 20 police officers chasing him. In front of him is a large window... Diablo runs... JUMPS... and SMASHES out of the window. Underneath him is the OCEAN. He falls five stories straight into it. The police stop at the window. OFFICER Should we pursue? OFFICER 2 Nobody could survive a jump like that. FADE TO: EXT. ARMORED TRUCK - MOMENTS LATER The muscular man wakes back up. The attempt to open up his eyes is painful. One Militia is looking down at him, smiling. He takes out a pistol, placing it inside of the mans mouth. MILITIA 1 Hello sunshine. Welcome to your worst nightmare! Militia 1 pulls the trigger but it clicks. The chamber is empty and the gun is not loaded. Militia 1 laughs. MILITIA 1 (CONT'D) You're lucky my boss wants you alive. CUT TO: INT. REINFORCED BUILDING - LATER A woman is sat at a large table, back to us. We can't see her face. The militia drag Diablo into the room, sitting him down onto the seat. WOMAN Quite a show you put on for the police, honey. I see you still haven't learned your limits. Diablo slowly looks up at a familiar face. The woman opposite him is BETHANY. DIABLO You b***h! (pause) You called the police? BETHANY Call it a test. Needles to say, you passed. We could use a guy like you in our operation. A guy to do all the dirty work for us. DIABLO What makes you think I will help you? BETHANY Because if you don't, i will end your life right now. If you do... we can offer you immunity from the police and money. Loads of money. (beat) Now tell me, do you accept my offer to become 'The Hitman'? The shadow in our operation. The ghost. Diablo looks up at Bethany, thinking. He nods his head and we - FADE TO BLACK: FADE OUT. THE END
