What Happened?A Poem by Darrin ReaySo this isn't technically a poem -- it's a song. It's about the time I was going through depression and when I hated myself. I hope people can relate and I hope that you all enjoy it.What happened to the boy in the picture by my window? What happened to the boy I used to know? His laughs have passed and his smiles have gone, The good times have vanished and his pain has come, Now overcome by insecurity, As the walls are closing in and time is counting down, For him to make a change and be happy. Life is flashing before my eyes, ‘I am okay’ is my least convincing lie, I take all of my feelings, I keep them bottled up inside, Waiting for the moment when I’m not afraid to hide, In hopes that one day I’ll be strong enough to smile, And hoping that day is coming soon as I’ve been waiting a while. What happened to the boy who would always care? What happened to the boy who would always be there? He sits alone listening to sad songs all day, Waiting for that moment when the pain will go away, Now overcome by the darkness in his heart, As the walls are closing in and time is counting down, For him to fight the pain and watch it depart. Nobody can see me as I hold back each tear, Nobody can see how much of this life I fear, They can see the smiles but can’t see the pain, As I continue with the pain, again and again.
