Chapter 1-Fay

Chapter 1-Fay

A Chapter by Dark Reaper

Fay woke from her deep sleep as a cold wind blew across her face. Her eyes fluttered open and her eyes were murky. She could make out the light of torches flickering around her.

She sighed and said to herself, "Still dark..."

Fay sat up, with her bright blue hair flowing down her shoulders. As her sight cleared she could see that the window was open.

"No wonder I was cold."

The frigid wind blew the curtains around. She slowly got up and walked toward the window. Fay looked onto the grounds and saw no one in the courtyard. When she looked closer she could see a few gaurds at the gate. There were also a few on the wall overlooking the fields.

After a bit of looking around she hung her head and looked at her arm. After she pulled up the sleeve long red scars and cuts could be seen on her wrist and forearm. The flames from the torches cast light that made the cuts appear deeper than they already were. She reached for the knife on her night stand when the familliar rattling of chains and grinding of gears signalled that the gate was opening.

She saw the steel grate being pulled upward. As soon as the gate was fully opened two horsemen rode at full speed through the gate. Fay wouldnt have batted an eye and assumed that they were just drunk but then she noticed the almost lifeless form on the back of one of the horses. The only reason why she could tell it was a person was because she could sense the fading soul within it.

Soldiers approached the horsemen and verified that they were knights. The men lept off their horses and slowly carried the man off the horse. As they carried him into the main hall blood trailed with them. The soldiers opened the door and took him inside.

Fay turned and sneakily rushed to the door. She looked around and saw no one. She creeped down the stairs and looked again. She noticed her gaurd leaned against the wall snoring. As Fay slowly made her way to the doorway she held her breath as not to wake him up. She stood against the wall opposite the stairs and peeked into the doorway. In the center of the floor was a man dressed in all black clothing that was now torn to ribbons. His hood was pulled down to reveal a bloody face. His eyes were closed and he was barely breathing. His hand clutched a spot over his heart. Sweat beaded on his pale face. Blood was even seeping from his eyelids.

Gashes and burns littered his chest. Blood had already began pooling on the floor. Two men were crouching next to him and rubbed herbs on the cuts. Another man in a white cloak and hood jogged from another room and crouched to study the man. He pulled the man's tattered shirt up off him.

Then Fay watched as he held his hands out and chanted strange words. The chanting was not working for the black burns began to spread across the unconscious man's chest. They were spreading to his face and eyes. Desperate the chanting man chanted different words. The spreading ceased and the burns receded. The cuts had already healed by the time that the burns went back to their original size. But even then the burns began to disappear as the man's breathing began to get healthier. His hand slipped from his chest and he lay unconscious.

Fay noticed the man in white stand and say something indistinct to two of the soldiers. They grabbed the man on the floor by the arms and carried him toward the doorway she was already in.

"Fay go, get to bed now hurry!" said a voice behind her.

She jumped and turned to see her gaurd awake and gesturing to the stairs. She obeyed and ran to the stairs. She silently went up the stairs. She slipped down the hall and into her room to get into her bed. No sooner after she pulled up the covers she saw the light of torches climbing the stairs. A man with a white beard lead the two soldiers into the room next to hers.

Father?!

She heard the bed flex under the weight of the unconcious man. The men grunted as they struggled with something in the other room. Then it all went silent except for her own breathing. The king walked from the room and down the hall to the stairs. The soldiers stood gaurd at either side of the doorway to that room.

Just as the men began to relax, the torches in all the upstairs rooms were snuffed out. It was pitch black and she could hear the men whisper, "What do we do with this demon spawn?"

An arc of electricity went up Fay's spine as she felt fear she hadnt felt in years. Not since her mother died.

If he is demon spawn then why did we save him!

Dark Reaper,

It is a good story. I don't feel your opening paragraph does it enough justice though. Perhaps consider revising?

Thank you for sharing!

Kind regards,

Schatzi
