Chapter FourA Chapter by Jessica Fox
Something stung my nose, my neck and back burned, there seemed to be liquid fire running through my body. I tried screaming, my throat was dry, someone murmured something incoherently and hands held me down. Something warm and searing was applied to my neck and I let out a snarl as my back came off the bed. “You must not let her shift it will cause her more damage than good.” The voice was female; it was heavily accented and soothing to my ears. “Michael tore a good chunk out of her, she did manage to break some of his ribs and get a few good bites in.” I tried to smile, even that hurt; the deep voice of Dylan flooded my pain-filled body with relief. So apparently, he made it out unscathed, only what happened to me. “She wants to know what happened to her.” I growled again, I felt like the woman that touched me was invading my thoughts. There was an amused chuckle and warm hands smoothed the hair away from my forehead, something sharp and wet was applied to my forehead. The feeling of calm flowed through my body. “How do you know what she wants?” Dylan’s voice was shocked and if it didn’t hurt to roll my eyes I would have. Boys can truly be dense sometimes and yet I wonder why I bother. The woman’s soft laughter seemed to ease my bristling nerves. “You forget pup, I can read your kind, not all of your kind.” I heard the sharp intake of breath and then something warm being pulled up to my chin. “How come I can’t read her? I have the same ability; I was just able to tell what she was by smell.” I heard muttering and more of the stinging salve was applied to my wounds. The bed shifted and I let out another low growl. “Why is she growling at me she knows me.” I tried turning my head and groaned. You idiot I hardly know you and now I am laid up in a bed, left for nearly dead because of you and your stupid cousin. I wanted to glare at Dylan and then beat him silly; if he were any kind of wolf, he would have been able to take his own cousin down. “What did she say; I know by your look that she said something. Wait what is that…” There was a lot of muffled struggling and then I heard a door slam. I could not sit up; I tried only to fall back against the pillows. I suppose since I was stuck here, I should just rest and try to heal. Looks like Amanda was wrong in her premonition this time, I did not die, in fact I am beginning to believe I cannot die. I sighed and the pungent odor of herbs helped me ease into a blissful slumber. © 2009 Jessica Fox |
