Paper thinA Poem by Elena CovaciHang a dirty shoelace from the wall and picture this a thousand "maybes" on a scratched surface of frozen ice I was always a stubborn girl In my mind and on my pillow I feel something closer something cruel, almost watching So, in memory of me hang up this portrait of grass and glass wrapped in twine and crows hearty feathers I was always a bold girl On an old letter I write words in sync and those flutter like magic carp down a waterfall of my own hair And I hang myself up high Like a beauty queen of Kalkuta This brown paper bag is finally empty
