Perspective

How a change of perspective can be the thing that moves you forward.

It started with a smile,
the fact it was still possible to laugh.
Then a choice to do what was right,
rather then what I wanted at the time.
Then came the understanding,
even though I didn't want to.
The thoughts and feelings came next,
I acknowledged them, let them out-
let them go.
I came to see it as a good thing,
even though your reasons behind it,
made no sense to me.
I doubt I'll ever be able to be with you
or ever truly be your friend,
but I've learned nothing is a certainty,
through that, I've started to mend.
And though I write this with a bittersweet
tone in mind,
I guess it all worked out in the end.
