Once The Song is Over

Once The Song is Over

A Story by dark and twisty
"

A short prose piece

"

He is the sort of a person who comes up to you, out of the blue, at a mutual friend’s wedding and asks you to dance with him and even though you can’t dance for your life, you agree because it is him, this man who wears his heart on his sleeve and forgets to wear a belt in his pants and manages somehow to look beautiful at the same time.

The surprising thing - the dancing is wonderful, hilarious even and lightens up the atmosphere considerably. The two of you, laughing, singing out loud the lyrics, him twirling you around and you thinking, we are young and the world is ours.

Everyone else starts joining in and girls are being twirled, short skirts and dresses flaring, people laughing, singing.

You look at his face and it is lit from within like never before or maybe it is because you have never seen his face this close.

Oh how you loved him then, in that moment, how impossible it seems that in a few minutes he would let you go, step away and go and dance with someone else.

You want to beg, you want to get down on your knees and grovel. Don’t let me go, don’t leave me, talk to me all night, tell me your secrets, tell me who loved you and who hurt you, walk on the beach with me, kiss me, love me, marry me, give our children goofy names and tell me not to spoil them while you do so yourself.

Instead you hold all that you want within and you let him walk away once the song is over.

They almost always do find someone else to dance with, don't they? *sigh* Men. In any event, this was fantastic. I loved the imagery you provided. I pictured it almost perfectly in my head. It was very heartfelt and a little witty. Your an amazing writer and I hope you know that. I look forward to reading more of your work.

If music be the food of love ......play on!
That's probably why dancing was invented (along with a sense of humour).
Did you know that we men have had the same problem??
I had a few chuckles whilst reading this.

The first paragraph gave me such a warm feeling a position so many of us have been in described so beautifully.
A very truthell piece from the heart , a spirted dance of passion that you will never have agan descriped with the utmost tenderness and beauty

I think I love the men in your stories more than any man I've ever met...I've met some 'classics'. Another one for the favorites. You have the knack for letting the reader feel that she is the one in these moments of blissful torment. Loved it!

wow. i'm impressed. you've taken a moment that most of us have experienced in one way or another and defined it beautifully and accurately. it's a wonderful sketch of one very special moment that most of us just let slip by without recognising. nicely done.

Sadness. You managed to find the raw emotion in one simple action. I would feel sad in a single moment if my love walked away from me like that. Oh, lovely. Thanks for suggesting this to me.
