Change of PaceA Chapter by KittenBy AshleyTwo months later She was
cleaning the flat and he was on day three of moping. The doctor had gotten
tired of his rants and sulking so he went out for the day. She was stuck with
him. Once she had the flat clean she went to their room and got on her laptop.
She got on the only chat site that actually had people with minds on it. And
had seen she had missed some messages. Two from her friend she had left in
America. One from an ex. And about twelve from people asking for her help. She
ignored all of them. Except for her friend. She a quick message back when she
got a sudden new chat. Probably another sap needing a crap case solved. King2Be: Hello there. Lame username. She thought. But she would indulge him. SOS: Hi. Do you need a case solved? Because I’m not taking
any right now. King2Be: Oh no. Nothing like that. I just. Want to have a
chat. SOS: Ok. What would you like to talk about? King2Be: Anything really. You seem very interesting. She rolled her eyes. All she had to do was get rid of this
guy quickly. SOS: Well. I could say the same about you. If I knew. But I
don’t so I can’t say you are. I can hardly judge how ‘interesting’ a person may
be. Without meeting them. King2Be: How about we meet then? I’m not very far from you.
I’ll even be nice enough to send you a picture. So you can find me easily. Well… He did seem like a nice guy. I’m sure he wouldn’t be
able to notice her being gone through all his moping. What could a few hours
hurt? King2Be: is sending a picture She accepted the file and as soon as it loudly a light blush
crossed her cheeks. He was… really cute. She bit her lip softly. SOS: Alright. I might be able to take you up on that offer
tonight. What time? King2Be: How does six sound? Movie and dinner. My treat. SOS: You have won my over stranger. But I must let you know.
I am technically taken. King2Be: Oh. I know. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a
little fun with a friend. SOS: You have a point. See you at six. SOS: has logged off She shut her browser and then her laptop. She got up and
started to pick out her outfit. She had two hours. Not much time to put
together something nice. She got all her things around and started a bath. Once
the tub was full she undressed and stepped in. She hummed lightly to the songs
on the radio as she took her bath. She emptied the tub and stepped out about a
half hour later. Starting to get more excited she starts singing and dancing
and getting ready. Finally. A bit of a change. This was going to be refreshing.
But she had to be careful. He would get upset if she knew she was going out
alone. With a stranger. She begins
to get dressed, once her hair and make-up was finished. She checked the time.
5:30. She needed to get going. She did a quick once over and made sure she had
what she needed. She walked out into the living room. Luckily enough. He had
actually fallen asleep. She was able to make her way out of the building
without being noticed. She hailed
herself a cab and gave the man directions. She started wishing that she had
gotten the man’s number. Or his name. At least. But this brought more surprise
to the date. Something she hadn’t had in awhile. She leaned her head on the
window some, watching the building go by. By the time
the cab had finally pulled up to the restaurant it was five after six. She was
late. But hopefully not to a bad point. She got out of the cab and watched it
drive away. There was a bit of a line. Which meant waiting. She sighed lightly
and looked around. Her eyes
met with that of a man that stood out from the rest. Not that he was dressed
weird. Or that his hair was strange. He was just different. He was looking
around like she was. It couldn’t be. He turned in her direction. She gasped
lightly. He was even better looking in person. No, he’s just a friend. This is
a friend thing. She lied to herself. His eyes finally rested on her and a small
grin crossed his face. She became slightly flustered and tried to regain
herself as he crossed over to her. He walked
up to her and took her hand in his, kissing it lightly. She tried to keep the
blush from her cheeks. “I was
wondering when you’d show yourself.” He said smoothly. Ok. Wow. His voice. She
was turning back into a teenager. What was with this? Get a hold of yourself.
She smiled at him. Not sure what to say. He led her over to the quickly
shortening line. “Don’t you
have to make reservations for a place like this?” She asked. He gave a light
chuckle. “You don’t
get out much do you my dear?” He asked. She shook her head. “Well.
Don’t worry. I have it covered.” He said as they entered. They were taken to a
table, sort of towards the back. This made her even more nervous. But she did
her best to hide it. “So. I
never caught your name.” He said with a smirk. She smiled softly and said her
name. He then in return spoke his. She mulled it over in her mind. Interesting.
None of the people she knew. Seemed to have normal names. But. She enjoyed that
fact. He ordered them some wine that she had never heard of. She didn’t know
what to say or do. It had been so long. Since she actually had gone on a date. The closet she came was when it was just she
and he working a case. Without his partner. They never really did the dating
thing. But it worked. It was exciting. She did wish they had a normal relationship
sometimes. She sighed lightly. He looked at her. “Is
something bothering you?” He asked. She shook her head. Their wine had finally
come and they both gave their orders. She had hardly said a word all night. He
was going to notice. He had already in fact. He took a drink out of his glass
and looked at her again. “If I might
ask. What do you normally do? I know you don’t just sit on that laptop of yours
all day.” He says smiling. She took a sip of her own wine and gave him a light
smile. “I spend
most my time running around solving cases with my two partners. One who has
become like a father to me and the other who at times. Can be quite like a
child but is a very wonderful man.” She explained. His eyes widened a bit. “So. You
are taken by this man?” He asked. “Yes dear.
It says it right on my profile.” She said grinning. He grinned back at her. “Then why
did you come out with tonight?” He asked. She looked around a bit and took
another drink. “You
seemed. Interesting.” She said. He laughed lightly. “I’m not
blind. I see the way you post on that website. You want something new something
exciting. Like it was working with them at first.” He said. She was slightly
shocked by what he had just said. Because, it was all-true. She quickly took another
sip of her wine and was saved time to answer when their meals arrived. She
smiled at the waiter as he placed her plate down and started to eat. He
finished his wine and poured more into his glass. They sat and ate for about an
hour, talking about whatever they felt like. She really was enjoying this. He
was sweet and cute and really nice to talk with. She wasn’t really sure if she
still wanted to go to the movie. She wanted to just go home with him. But she
knew that wasn’t going to work. They would notice. If they hadn’t already. He
paid for their meals and they walked out together. “Ready for
our movie love?” He asked. She blushed lightly and nodded. He called them and
cab and once they had gotten in he have the driver the name of where they were
going. She sat close to him. Probably closer then needed. But he didn’t seem to
mind. He welcomed it, placing his arm around her waist. She grinned softly.
What she wouldn’t give to have a night with him. But not now. No. Dinner and
movie. That’s what she had agreed to. They finally made it to the theater and
got out of the cab. They walked inside and chose a movie. There was a little
over twenty people in their movie. So, it wasn’t to crowded. Which was good.
She leaned on him some and eventually at some point in the movie she ended up
almost cuddling up to him. With her head on his shoulder and his arm around
hers. They were back to the flat she lived at before she wanted to be. “I had a
lot of fun tonight…” She said getting out of the cab with him. He smiled. “I’m glad.
I did too. We will have to do this again.” He said. They exchanged numbers and
he pulled her to him. She looked into his eyes blushing. He leaned into her
ear. “Let me
leave you with one last thing.” He whispered before kissing her hard. She
wrapped her arms around his neck as his arms tightened around her waist.
Everything seemed to stop in her mind. All her worries and fears. All she wanted
was him. But it had to end once he pulled away. She bit her lip softly. “Till next
time.” He said grinning and getting in the cab. She watched it drive away and
turned to see the familiar number on the door. She sighed and pushed the door
open. Ready for what was to come. But not a bit scared for it. Or guilty about
what had just happen. This was the best night she had had in a few months. © 2013 KittenAuthor's Note
