Picture of you

A quiet creak wakes me from my memories. Straining my ear again, all that awaits my ear is a lazy silence. Maybe it is just my imagination. I noticed the dying light is darkening much faster as the sun descends farther from its lofty place in the domed sky.

I turn back to the photo, gently fingering the edges. Shadows slide back and forth from this world that is prey to time to the timeless one beyond the glossy window. So much as happened since time stopped for this image of you…

Suddenly, snaking arms wrap tightly around my shoulders. A warm body presses against my back. I know that scent and laugh anywhere. I gaze up into your stormy eyes.

“What are you thinking about?” You ask. Then you catch sight of the photo in my hand. You rub your nose playfully in my hair. “You still have it?”

I chuckle. “Of course.” I tilt my head up and kiss you lovingly on that warm cheek. Your giggle is the same as when we first met, beautifully youthful.

After a moment, you reluctantly let go. “C’mon,” you smile, standing up. “Let’s go out for a walk, before the sun sets.” Taking my hand so easily, you gently lead me from the attic. I’ve always followed your shining light and that fact hasn’t and won’t change.

And the photo drifts unnoticed to the ground, surface glinting in the sunset’s afterglow.

And all this will remain through this picture of you.

A cute chapter. I can tell the narrator is deeply in love with whomever "you" is. However, I can't understand what the last colored line is trying to tell me. I'm not sure if it was intentional or not, but I love the anonymity of gender in this chapter.
