sophieA Story by charlesbased of a news story of a little girl getting kidnappedSOPHIE 10 year old Sophie is sitting in the kitchen with her Dora book bag next to the centered bar watching for her mother to come and walk her to the bus stop. She hears the wheels of her mother’s car roll across the cracked pavement sounding like she was riding in gravel. When her mother walks through the door Sophie can just see the exhaustion in her face. Although up her whole shift she looked liked she had just got up. Ms. Neale mopes through the door as if maybe she had a hip replacement; she see’s Sophie waiting for her. “Hey baby, how about you be a big girl today and walk to the bus by yourself.” An exhausted whisper comes from Ms. Neale’s mouth. A huge smile came across Sophie’s face. For she had been waiting to walk by herself being that the kids did. “Yes Mam” Sophie says with energy. Sophie grabs her sack lunch and throws it in her book bag rushing out the house with one strap on. Ms. Neale never even making it to the bed had passed out on the couch exhausted from her pragmatic schedule at work. Having to be back at work in 3 more hours she wanted to get every minute of sleep. Sophie running to the bus stop gets stopped at a busy street even though it is early and the suns up Sophie wanted to prove to her mother that she can be a big girl. Sophie begins to look both ways she looks left and see a man running. The man looks familiar so she doesn’t think nothing of it. She realized it was Mr. Lester and soon she notices he is running toward he, Sophie takes off being so scared that all she could hear was her footsteps and heartbeat switching intermittently. Mr. Lester tackles Sophie in a open field, picks her up and takes to his house. No one will ever ask him because they figure he’s just some creepy old guy. “Sophie Neale” the room fills with silence, being that this weird because Sophie never misses a day of school. The teacher calls Ms. Neale. Ms. Neale knocked out cold on the brown wrap around couch hears the phone ring but only has one more hour to sleep she lets it go to voicemail. One hour later Ms. Neale gets up, starts her coffee to leave out the house with. Remembering that someone had called, she plays the voicemail. Ms. Neale this is Colorado Elementary school we are calling concerning the absence of Sophie Neale she never arrived at school today.” She drops her cup of coffee in shock while the rest of the voicemail sounds like white noise. She calls the school to make herself believe this is real. After being convinced she calls the police department only t hear that they cannot begin a search warrant until it has been 48 hours. She immediately starts to cry. Still in shock Ms. Neale lacks of several days of sleep and energy. She sat on that brown wrap around couch with a white cotton blanket sitting in fetal position with tears bleeding down so much that the others never get a chance to dry. Now it has been 48 hours was up and Ms. Neale called the police back. After hearing they set up perimeter around the house, while setting up the perimeter they find a body and someone found Sophie’s Dora book bag in a field down the street. Ms. Neale hopes and prays that the body is not Sophie’s. so many visions fly through Ms. Neale’s head, maybe she was raped, maybe she was killed. Maybe she was raped and killed; not sure what to think Ms. Neale slips back into the state of depression as she waits on the phone to ring to heat that the body is not Sophie’s © 2013 charlesAuthor's Note
