Turning Twenty

Turning Twenty

A Poem by Nymphadora
"

A birthday poem for myself.

"

No longer a "Teen", growing old,

Just remembered how things went bold,

All things before will never be back,

In the memories, they're all locked.

It's sad to reminisce those stuffs,

Smooth years were embraced by laughs,

Dragging to the present, those years,

Those years, oh, can offer tears.

What was it that serves as grinding stone?

Slowly, creeps to the hungry bone,

Thus, one was furnished with bliss,

Turning twenty, one must never miss.

I really loved the last few lines of this poem. They tied everything up in a nice way.

I just turned 21, and I felt so old!!

Ah, to be 20 -- OK, make that 30 again! ;-)

You still look back at your childhood nostalgically, as in other poems, for the simpler idyllic mood. Obviously, you are still feeling the effects of tumultuous adolescence, being a young adult feeling between stages. It's like childhood was a lovely day in Eden, teen years brought storms, and at 20, you are perhaps newly encamped on the island of young adulthood, wondering what's next, what it means to be closely relating to significant others now.

Technically, the poem should state "older," rather than "old." That means "bold" becomes "bolder." And, "remembering." "Those stuffs" should be "this stuff."

The most intriguing mystery is the line "What was it that serves as grinding stone?"

What indeed. Life, I suppose. WHAT'S being honed is the next mystery.

Keep up the good work, my fine young friend.
