Hope and Hate

Only two choices lie open to us

At the junction of hope and hate
I must decide which path to take

Miles of hope lie at my back
A destroyed and smoke-shrouded track

I look left, and I look right
Though the paths confound my sight

It seems no matter the choice
I lose my voice

At the junction of hope and hate
One step will decide my fate

I've never been a poetry kind of person, but every once in a while lines come to me, so I put them on paper. Feel free to critique as hard as you wish

No it's not. But every day we have to make decisions. And Hope and Hate are great words for what we choose each day. It's stringing together the choice for Hope that can make our lives beautiful.

Really cool work for someone who isn't a poetry person. I can actually see the persona at the crossroad and feel his confusion. Because, while hope would have been the more orthodox choice, more than likely we find hate to be most appealing according to our states of mind. I loved how you described the path of hope behind your back as a destroyed and smoke-shrouded track. I must say that I really enjoyed reading this.
