If (Women)A Poem by Danny BallanA poem about the true woman not only in a man’s eye, but in her eyes, tooIF By Danny Ballan Click to read more of my poems and other articles on my blog. If you can walk through the ranks of men Stretch their lives to a fatal loose end. If you can talk in the world’s deepest den Some words that only God can comprehend. If you can charm those who have truly sworn The oath of youth has gone way beyond reach. If you can freeze in wars soldiers being torn And foes again for another cause has each, Yet you still your bower have kept intact; Men still kill for you at will, but respect you as a fact. If you can hold the world at a mad trance, But inside you mingle with your common sense. If you can loosen the horses all in wild dance, Yet still the doors are closed with a sturdy high fence. If you can order the kill of a hundred knights With a word to your loyal charming prince. Yet you teach the mad dog about their rights And on a sane leash you’ve kept him ever since. If you possess all the power there is in the world, Yet when winter comes, your story is proudly told. If you can look at the future and see what’s beyond; Another day life needs you to give life to the dead. If you can look clearly and see those of you are so fond, Grab the dearest, the one to whom you will eternally wed. If you do not have the heart in the big display shelf stand Waiting for the dream of the worthy that never comes. To watch your bounty day by day finding less and less demand Until your face yourself in the false mirror of youth no more stuns. If you realize that the worthy is the work of your own making A man who holds you tight when all the world around is shaking. Yours shall be the earth and all land sky ground soil and water. You’ll be a lady worth being cherished; a true woman my daughter. 2011 © 2013 Danny Ballan |
