Penelope Crying

by Danny Ballan

Have you gone there, and there you have forgotten

That every day away from you is nothing short of hell?

Have the roses ceased to blossom, their scent been rotten?

Is the news of your glory true that you rose up high and fell?

Is it true there’s no more love in your heart to be given?

Is it true the world has ceased to move; no more stories to tell?

I don’t believe their stories nor all their nasty lies.

I am the one who lies every day on the side of the ocean;

Poseidon’s waves slice in my body bringing you to my thighs.

I can’t tell how hard it is to lose all the feelings but the emotion

That you are here, your blood in me strengthening our ties;

Carrying me into another day of my total fidelity and devotion.

Men are here lurking around trying to steal what’s yours

Thinking I might be seduced by their trying to imitate thee.

A greedy dream in their minds; an idea in my mind never occurs.

They’re circling around my ever longing-to-you misery.

Their tries to be gentle, brave and true, oh yes it stirs-

Only you. You are my roots, how can anyone grow on your tree?

I’ll always be waiting for you, for you and no other;

You are my true hero and the rest are so common.

I could forget the loss of a son, or the departure of a dear brother,

But not you Odysseus, my great illustrious hero sea man.

They could squeeze me and the last cells in my heart smother,

Yet I’ll always be with you as one; I’ll always be your woman.
