Mother's Love

Mother's Love

A Story by Dani Eiri
"

A narrator discovers how disgusting but yet beautiful the world can act.

"
I was sitting at my local park when I saw the mother and her baby boy, who was perhaps a little over a year old. The distance between us was short enough to hear the whispers of nearby children and adults saying: "look at that baby" "what is wrong with it?" Despite their words, the baby was giggling and the mother was smiling lovingly to her baby. A little girl around four years old, slowly and nervously walks to the mother and baby. As she walks towards them, her face twists in horror to what her eyes see. Her mother, I assume, grabs the little girls' hand and quickly leads her away. Looking back to the boys' mother, I watch as tears roll down her face as she gives her baby a warm, but sad smile to her baby. Feeling hurt and sadness swell within me, I slowly stand. Without knowing what else to do, I walk towards the baby and mother. As I near them, the mother looks towards me, and the expression on her face let me know that she was expecting the worst. Softly, I say "people are foolish if they cannot see how beautiful your son is, inside and out." Smiling happily, the mother says "thank you so much. Since my baby boy was born with Tessier cleft lip and palatte, people stare at us and even say that I should have aborted him."
