He Killed Her

He Killed Her

A Story by Dani Eiri
"

Short story about a murder with a side of humour.

"
Blood. Blood everywhere. He killed her. He really killed her. Shocked, unknowing of what to do, I stand in the doorway to the kitchen. I slowly back away. Their marriage, I always thought it was great. Where is he now? Fearful, I turn to run and grab the phone.
Smack!
“F**k you wall!”, I yell as I continue to run towards the phone. With trembling hands, I dial for the police station. It’s a woman’s voice, “what is your emergency?”
“He killed her . . . A man, killed her.” My voice was trembling. Apparently it wasn’t just my hands that were trembling.
“Who was killed?” Her voice is calm despite the situation.
I choked out my sister’s name.
“And who killed her?”
“It was-” someone touched my shoulder. I grip the edge of a chair, quickly dropping the phone. I glance over my shoulder, seeing just a silhouette. Picking up the chair, I prepare to swing with all my strength, twisting around to face the killer.

Suddenly, I drop the chair. I was too afraid to move. What- or I mean who was standing in front of me was . . . “OH MY GOD A ZOMBIE!”

The zombie’s mouth opened.

“Calm down, it’s just a prank. The blood is fake.” I stood a moment. First there was confusion, then realization, then pure anger. I turn from my sister abruptly and pick up the phone that I dropped, “sorry, it was just a prank that went wrong.” After I hung up the phone, I turn towards my sister and look her dead in the eyes.

“Please tell me that I’m on Scare Tactics and that I’m being paid for this.”
