Trying Not to Be

Trying Not to Be

A Poem by M.D.

'She's too perfect' my mother says about me.
'She needs to open up more' she says
'She has potential but she needs to show it more.'
'She needs to talk more.'

I hide my secrets.
I try but you don't listen.
I work with the most effort.
No one wants to hear what I have to say.

Everyone gave up on me.
I think too much.
I'm not the smartest.
No one's there to listen.

I'm not perfect.
I have flaws.
I get scared when I have to talk to people.
I shake and it gets hard to breathe.
I make mistakes.
I don't know everything.
I truly trying not to be perfect
But you expect me to be so
While you tell me not to be.
