The Tale of Stephan Kippler

The Tale of Stephan Kippler

Inspired heavily by T.S Eliot's "Sweeney through the Nightingales", a poem about death.

"
The Tale of Stephan Kippler
Stephan Kippler sat uncomfortably upon his stool,
Scoffing down his drink and pie.
And as she swayed majestically into the bar,
He began to ponder and construct his next lie.
She lured him in with her diamonds and gold,
But Stephan stared out towards the Sarstoon,
Watching the boatsmen and the dwellers,
Go aboard and brace themselves for the typhoon.
Her eyes, bright, and incandescent from the candle's glow,
Pierced through the smoke-filled air,
And as Wadd put the two at the same table,
The newsboy warned of a new affair.
As Thanatos swirled and hovered above the room,
The magician entered with a box, draped in fur.
He spoke very highly, and spoke with grandeur
But the wrinkled beings did not twitch nor stir.
A man entered, walking the path of Cocytus,
And decided to order a drink.
Jinnís genies drowned him in regret,
Strangled him in his bitterness as he finished in the sink.
The waiter warned of upcoming times,
Were all would end, and all would start.
And as the truth flooded the room,
The tip-toers of the cliff-edge were drawn apart.
A thunderous bolt hit the tavern, stunning Kippler and the rest,
And the ankh-seeking mortals began to float,
They disappeared into the twilight,
Leaving nothing but their sorry anecdote.
