A tribute to my loving, but flawed, biological parents. Rest in peace
The Final Goodnight
In every confession was contrition
For your negligence and addiction
In every conviction was compassion
For I could see in your exhaustion
The desire to drench your soul in salvation
Chiseling out this final goodnight
Are mossy memories you glazed in starlight
Chiseling out this final sleep tight
Are the limericks you etched into the night
Despite the darkness with which you were forced to fight
May my rites release your mind at last
From the phantasms that pervade your past
May my rites relieve your heart of ash
So it will never again throb and thrash
Cut through those threads of threnody
That choke off your rivers of rhapsody
For your sins I have forgiven
So that you can find your home in Heaven
In loving memory of my biological parents. You may not have been the best parents, but I know that you both did want to overcome your flaws so that you could be. I forgive you, and will always love you. May my words help both of you rest in peace.
I've been trying to write again for about three months now, but haven't been able to find my words up until this bittersweet moment. I sat down, laboring over this piece for many hours for many days, determined to fight through my writer's block in order to write what I felt was necessary for me to write.
Anyway, I still don't know when I'll be posting anything again. Hopefully I'll write something before another three months have passed, but we'll have to see. As always, thanks for reading (the few of you that actually still read my writing XD), have a fantastic day, and I'll see you next time!! :)

This must have been such a difficult write. Deeply personal and heartfelt, your note reeks of pathos and courage at the same time. I am sorry for your loss and I truly hope writing this has yielded you some form of catharsis.
Take care.
Best,
M.

Thank you so much for your kind words, and for reading this. Writing has, for sure, given me some catharsis, and continues to do so :)
Forgiveness is something only few of us can grant, for many times pride envelops us. But this poem delivers waves of strength and bravery. Your lines are filled with beauty and thought. Although you have departed and partly returned to your writing experience, I am greatly excited to see what else you create (Someday).

Good job of accomplishing your goal -- honoring parents despite their considerable flaws. To me, forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves, so we can stop grinding on the shortcomings. I have a similar story & there are always advantages that come with learning to live a broken life. Your sincerity shines thru & I hope you get your writing mojo back on a regular basis! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This is a powerful tribute of forgiveness to those who, I assume, did not care and nurture you as perhaps they should have. I know whereof you speak, but I, as yet, haven't reached your point of forgiveness.
Take care - Dave

However, by nature, I'm a person who prefers to forgive and carry on. It doesn't do me much of any good to hold any grudges. I'm certain you'll be able to reach that point of forgiveness someday as well. Thank you so much for reading my work. I'm happy you enjoyed it. :)

The words honest and true. You allowed the reader to feel and understand a part of your life. A powerful and worthwhile write. I did liked the ending.
