The Dire Importance of Having Fun in a World of Workaholics and Pandemonium
We (or at the very least I, as I can only truly speak for my own mentality) tend to become obsessed with working. This can happen for a multiverse of reasons (hyperbole much intended); we have to work to maintain our job positions, make a living, afford various necessities (food, water, electricity, a fly swatter, etc.), and to be able to get places quickly. It should be expected that most individuals uphold some form of responsibility (when was the last time you saw anybody making a living off of playing Pong all day?), but sometimes the fine chalk line between reasonably required and stressfully strenuous becomes nothing more than a microscopic, pixelated smudge on as static filled television screen.
I'm going to attempt to describe this with an analogy now, so please just bear with me, and let the berating commence afterwards. The world, as I see it, is similar to a book in the sense of 1st, 2nd and 3rd person perspective. Many of us write a lives into a 1st person novel, consisting mostly of self-obsessed I's and we's, in which they focus of crafting the story mostly around themselves, so that they can attempt to control what happens, which is not always necessarily a negative thing, mind you. On the other end of the metaphorical spectrum, there are those who live in the 3rd person, thinking about the him's, her's, they's and those around them, and how their scripts are going to play out. Both of these perspectives have pros and cons, and are, by no means, horrible ways of life, but they aren't necessarily the most effective either (this is, of course, a subjective splash of water all over our cosmological caravan).
The rarest of all people, it seems to me, are those who pirouette through their lives in the 2nd person. These individuals, or as I like to refer to them, Owls, have a tendency of gazing out at the world's issues, and think about the you's of each situation (you not necessarily being just you, the reader, but also the objective morality and accuracy that should be required of each scenario.). Because of their mostly well-tempered viewpoints on issues, both visceral and physical, such people tend to either avoid or quickly correct or solve the many civil schisms and social problems presented to them with a decent dosage of firm logic and thought.
This brings me back to my earlier talk of having fun in the midst of sometimes seemingly relentless workloads and deadlines. In my opinion, the world needs more of these 2nd person explorers, so that it can counteract the steadily rising darkness of today's society in the most hard-hitting way possible. By making ourselves just take a small step into more secular schedules (the religion, in this case, being work, never let anybody else tell you to abandon any spiritual faiths you have. That's a decision to be made by your own heart!), we may find that our exhausted eyes are reinvigorated by some of the finer characteristics of this world. From the most awesome alpenglow and the tallest tree to the nothing more than the reflection of the full moon in an attic window, our world is one of much inspiration and insight. In order to fully utilize these enshrouded resources to their fullest extents though, we must learn to balance our responsibilities and goals with relaxation, humility and unconventional musing.
