When sick, whether physically, mentally or symbolically, there are some people who refuse to let the disease defeat them regardless of how high its mortality rate is.

To this parasite I am not immune

Vital signs flatline, but still I refuse

To surrender to this symbiotic virus

The contagion spreads, but won't be victorious

Coagulation coddles the infection, counteracting the pandemic!

Never again will I submit to this dementia

Terminate the chronic illness!  Amputate your paralysis!

I'm defibrillating and starving this schizophrenia

I subjected myself to cellular dissection

To exterminate this molecular incineration

Into cardiac arrest I will not relapse

For vehemence has taught me how to adapt

Author's Note

So for the first time in quite a while, I actually had the inspiration to experiment a little again! This piece is also one of the first positive "fight the darkness" type of songs I have written in a long time, which is even better. The inspiration behind this piece is a little strange: I was inspired to write it by a fever I had on Saturday, and the song is meant to be (vaguely and somewhat hyperbolized...that doesn't sound quite right, but I'm still a bit sick, so I'm a bit off with my ability with the English language right now) about some internal struggles I've been having lately. Now don't worry, I have nothing like schizophrenia or dementia, those are just meant to be symbolic. I'm, for the most part, physically and mentally healthy. Writing this piece felt strange, as I haven't experimented like this for a while, but I'll leave it up to you decide whether it's a hit or a miss! :)

This was a definite hit for me! Being able to write something like this when your sick is pretty impressive, even if it was just a fever. Throughout the piece I felt the sense of a fighting spirit, which I think really drove this one home.
Out of curiosity, is there a reason certain parts of the text are purple and some are gray? I'd love to know the thinking behind that :)

Thanks for reviewing, Amber. I'm finally glad I had the mindset to write something at least somewhat positive with this piece, especially since EVERYTHING ELSE I've written lately made me seem like an angsty teen lol. The purple coloring is supposed to represent a virus slowly taking over an individual. As the song (the fight) progresses, the virus is taking over more and more, until it momentarily takes over completely. However, right after "Charging...clear!" It starts to recede, which symbolizes the infected person finally really putting up a fight. Eventually, as the fight concludes (the final line of the song), the person has fully regained control and has claimed victory over his/her infection. :)

Haha I find writing about positive things much harder than negative, so I understand where you're coming from! Na I'd say more of an angsty adult, not many teens are capable of such word use lol. Very interesting with the color! I knew it must of had some significance, now that you told me, it seems fairly obvious that I should have seen it. Thank you for explaining :)

I suppose you're right lol. Unlike a lot of people I've come across, I honestly don't mind writing a few angsty pieces, but the main reason I'm trying to write differently than that is because I don't want negativity to become all I'm known for lyrically. I want to be known as a writer that writes something very uplifting and energetic one minute and then the next writes something dark and down to Earth, but not so much as to not have any imagination. I may be a song/poetry writer, but I feel like my passion lies more in the creativity of what I write, if you get what I mean. :)

I definitely see that! It's not only your words that are creative, since you always make the text fun to look at as well. And like you did here, it has actual significance to the work.
I can understand that, a variety is good so you don't end up like some bands that are just known for being just depressing or angry. Like, I can't even think of a happy song by Bullet for My Valentine. I need to be in the right mood to listen to them.
