Anthem of Ashes

Anthem of Ashes

A Poem by DoormanDan
"

Evil will not destroy us, our apathy towards it will

"

Anthem of Ashes

We drift beneath the water and we can hear the roar of thunder

But we are chained by our apathy

Burning banners rain down as Malevolence unleashes her hollow howl

And reveals her crimson claws

The innocent fall while the ignorant are all seduced by Revelry

Into our crypt we slowly crawl

Haunted heroes finally break, the wild child inside sinks into the grave

And yet here we remain, Kings and Queens of the Gray

We drift beneath the water and we can hear the roar of thunder

But we are chained by our apathy and have never heard of casualty

Wounded and petrified, swallowed whole by diabolic despondency

The forsaken are executed by Defeat

The vile hearted march on, decimation spreads like a deadly plague

Slowly through the hive of Society

This curse will draw our name unless we heed what the Oracles say

We must rise and eradicate or we’ll wither and desiccate

We drift beneath the water and we can hear the roar of thunder

But we are chained by our apathy and have never heard of casualty

Damnation sings the Anthem of Ashes

And yet here we still stand, crippled by the walls that have us confined

(sigh), I tried to keep the momentum flowing while writing this, but I personally think that near the end, I lost it. Anyway, I decided that I should try addressing a more serious issue for once with my writing. I know this is yet another dark song, but I can't seem to help that right now, because my mind only keeps coming up with lyrics for dark material right now for some reason, and I'm not going to try and force anything. So tell me what you think, as usual! :)

~~ excellent work... ~~ this really is the "anthem of ashes"... and by that i mean that you did justice to the title of this song... ~~ i also think that this piece has some fantastic instances of alliteration... and i think the personification of "malevolence" was done very skilfully... and frankly... i liked the closing line a lot... ~~ the image is compelling... and it's worded very well too... ~~ at a philosophical level, i do believe that we (as a society) have a tendency to lapse into a stupor and not do what we need to do... ~~ we suffer from a kind of inertia without realizing the consequences of that inertia... ~~ your song is like a wake-up call...

The victims seem to be unable to shake their apathy and do something positive to improve their status. It is time they stood up and bonded together, to either improve their lot or to finalize it.

~ There's no reason to discredit yourself. This is a fine dark poem which to me actually reflects what is going on in the news right now. This is finely crafted and does not seem to falter in the end. ~
