Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis

A Poem by DoormanDan
"

For that moment when we have to leave the wonders of childhood behind and embrace adulthood

Metamorphosis

Once upon a time I played games with Snow-White and Rose-Red

Every day we'd race through clandestine cotton candy caves

But to their enchanting eyes I find I must now say goodbye

The Earth has let her violet veil gently fall to the floor

But as I stood on the rooftop, I heard the clock saying, "Tick-tock"

And now I know I must not let myself be run through with rot

So although I mourn for the lovely burden I've lost

I will march on

Tonight I'll break out of this cocoon

And tomorrow I'll fan the flames of the sun, brave the dark side of the moon

With both Yin and Yang I'll fly away

Into a sky of storm clouds and Nightingales, flyleaf dreams and steady rain

Unafraid

Author's Note

DoormanDan
This idea was one that was sitting in my mind for many months, but up until now I just couldn't find the words to write it. I believe that the transition from being a child to being and adult can be seen as being a sad, a happy, an uncertain, and a strange moment all at once, and I tried to incorporate all of those emotions into this poem in some way. I don't know if I succeeded or not, so please tell me if you think I did or not! Also, there is symbolism in the colors I used for this poem, can you figure out what they symbolize? :)

A brave piece about coming of age, and accepting all the responsibility such a change entails ...

Thank you for the review Marvin :)
I really enjoyed this... Two things came to mind... reaching back to the simplicity and purity of childhood while reaching forward for the strength and courage to face the future... can we hold onto one while reaching for the other? And what's the price we have to pay? I loved this poem, by the way... it get's my gears turning! :)

If there was ever a tricky moment in our lives, it would probably be that transition period. Thanks.. read more

You are most welcome! :)
I know that you do not need these colors to be read or recognized. I think that the colors are for the fledglings. You have a voice now!

You are the type of writer who can write such beautiful pieces with any idea. Small or large. Easy or hard. You have shown me all your capabilities in this simple piece of poetry.
