When the war is lost and all hope is gone, there are those who still continue to fight the darkness
Embers of Eden
I watch with broken hands as Daylight draws his final breath
And the Maiden of Cataclysm ascends from the embers of Eden
This world of temperance has drifted into the depths of darkness
But against the Devil I shall still stand, a shepherd of the damned
...I will survive...
Heaven's angels fall from grace as Anarchy clips their white wings
And ravens scream in victory as they desolate innocent dreams
The Architects of Agony have sculpted their names onto society
But with the rain the tempest brings also comes bright lightning
Today I bury the fallen and guide the errant
Through the firestorm, the mire of war
Letters from the dead, the ghosts in my head
Drive me forward, I swear I'll never surrender
The Vampires of Rancor, the Sorceress of Sorrow
And the Monsters of Misery await on the road that I follow
But I will never bow in defeat to the Armies of Tragedy
Over these mountains I shall climb and leave this wasteland behind
For my loved ones I will survive
Today I bury the fallen and guide the errant
Through the firestorm, the mire of war
Letters from the dead, the ghosts in my head
Drive me forward, I swear I'll never surrender
I will drown the embers
Author's Note
Hey everybody, I know that I haven't been on this website much lately, an I also will not be surprised if this latest song is a bit of a disappointment. The reason for both of these things is simple; my creative flow has just come to a complete standstill, and I find that words and inspiration are coming to me at longer and longer intervals. I do hope this writer's block will end soon, but I've had it on and off for well over a month and a half now, so I can't even guess when my next piece of writing will come. I'm considering just taking a break from this website for a few months, but right now there's only a small chance of that happening. Only time will tell, as they all say. Please be honest in your review of this. Thanks :)
Sadly, the glories of war are to only be found or enjoyed by those in power who were, and are always, quite willing to sacrifice the lives of those seduced by the spell of whatever seemingly popular just cause is deemed appropriate to coin as a worthy banner fit to once more disguise war as something grand, rather than the senseless slaughter and bloodshed of countless innocents who will never see nor reap the glory they are programmed to fight and die for in the name of God, king, country, or freedom--freedom, ironically enough, that shall only be enjoyed in the dark confines of a grave that shall forever hold them captive while the rulers of this earth grow fatter and richer, basking in the warmth of yet another new day wherein they may, perchance, live out that wondrous hope of attaining more power in the next war ... After all, there is always an endless supply of fools willing to fight and die for a good lie even if it is the same lie use for thousands of years without end with a simple coat of freshly applied political or religious paint ... An all too true and very thought provoking write ...

You are welcome, and I'm glad that I'm able to stir that grey matter :)

feeding the grey matter keeps our minds growing even into death
End war, do nothing. Planes without pilots. Ground troops without marching. Puppets without strings...PEACE

Aw it's alright Dan we all need a break sometimes! I think I haven't been on here in a good month myself >.< I'm pretty much having the same issue. I hope you break your block soon!
As for the poem, I don't think your losing your edge. When I click on your requests I never know what to expect as far as content, but I always come away amazed by what I just read. I loved the dark intense feeling this poem had, it had me picturing myself as a lone warrior faced in a war against thousands, and positive that I will win. Yet another great write from you :)

Unfortunately, the block is still going somewhat strong(which might be noticeable in some of my newer writing, since some lines were what I believe to be forced), but it won't last forever, I'm certain! Like the title. Have trouble thinking of this as a song when it seems more suited for a place in todays theater. Valentine

I can kind of see what you mean with it being more suited for a place in today's theaters, but I personally think of this as a metal song(It was inspired by a song called Angels Fall by Breaking Benjamin). Thank you for reviewing this, as always. I don't know when I'll next post any writing. I'm just going to wait for that moment of inspiration to hit me once again :)
Sometimes reflection and not forcing the words on the page is a good thing. This great song/poem.
'But against the Devil I shall still stand, a shepherd of the damned' fantastic line. Well done.

Quite exceptional to say the least!
Surprising there's any room leftover to comment.
Took me by surprise, really. Original flow steadily
On cues.... Great work!!!
