Fade Away

Fade Away

A Poem by DoormanDan

This is the song that started it all for me

"

Fade Away

Throughout my life you always said that you would be with me until the end

But that was just a lazy lie because you let our friendship burn to the ground

The moment when I needed you, you stood there and let me fall back down

And after a time I picked myself up to let you know I have had enough

This is my life, this is my day

I will not continue to fade away

You left me behind with a half dead heart

But I've managed to find light inside the dark

What we had use to touch the sky, with the falcons it would fly

But you let our friendship fall down into the depths of the Earth without a sound

At one point when my trust in you soared, I believed everything you said you were

But now I know those were actually the things you weren't

All of those things that you use to say behind my back made my spirits sway

I was alive outside but stone dead inside, the betrayal pierced me like a knife

This is my life, this is my day
I will not continue to fade away

You left me behind with a half dead heart

But I've managed to find light inside the dark

There's nothing to salvage, there's nothing to save

I will not continue to dissipate

(You put out the fires forged by my heart but the darkness will not tear me apart)

No matter how hard you knock me down

Every time I shall get up off the ground

(I will continue crawling through this life, and leave this pain behind in the sands of time)

So here is the fact I have to sell, I have reached the end of this hell

This is my life, this is my day
I will not continue to fade away

You left me behind with a half dead heart

But I've managed to find light inside the dark

Author's Note

DoormanDan
So I was just searching through my closet, and I came across a binder full of songs I had written around five years ago. Among those songs was this one, the very first song I ever wrote. I wrote this one when I was in 7th grade(I was 14 years old), for a talent show(how I had the courage to perform in it, I have no idea). I know it's not as strong as what I write nowadays, but this song has a special place in my heart, and I really felt like showing it to you guys. What do you think ?

Sometimes having the point be clear is better than having the poem be too artsy. Thanks for reviewi.. read more

I agree completely :)
I disagree, I think this is very strong! I wish I still had my journal of my first poems... but I went crazy when I was 15 and burned them :( I wish I didn't because I had some good stuff in there! Anyway, I enjoyed this one because it turns from being upset and down to up and optimistic. Like no matter who beats you down you see the light at the end of the tunnel anyway. That indicates to me that you have a very strong personality :) Which is perfect for writing music by the way!
Great job, give your 14 year old self a pat on the back :)

And now its my favorite too.... :P
This was a brilliant piece.
Im sure almost everyone can relate to this, I know I can.
We all get friends that just aren't true friends.
We seem to care allot more about the friendship then they do, but that's ok, we just need to be strong and tell em where to go.
Its sad and it sucks.
But in this poem/song, you are being strong.
This was very deep and meaningful.
Enjoyed the read.

Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate your review :)
The choice of words - in structure, and rhyme - really held me.
Everyone can feel, but few can cause others to feel through their words. Awesome lyrics man.

Thank you so much for reviewing my writing. I really appreciate it ;)
I like it very much. It describes the pain of a broken heart and the struggle to move past that pain.
A fine and impressive poem.

You are very welcome.
It reminds me of when I was in that type of situation and makes me think of all the stuff I wrote then.

Yeah, it's funny when we look back and see just how far we've come, isn't it?
