One Minute Chapter Three: What? What? WHAT?A Chapter by DoormanDanOne Minute Chapter Three What? What? WHAT?
Usually, whenever something rather strange happens that can't be explained by one person, the human race turns to science for her opinion. When anomalies such as ball lightning occur, science states that it is a perfectly natural(but extremely rare) weather event in which lighting takes on the form of a ball. It's mysterious and seemingly alien things like this that science finds a way to explain in the language that the human race can easily understand; logic. However, the setting that was before Drake upon him waking up would, without a single doubt, have had science scratching her head in puzzlement. One thing was for sure, the black haired individual was NOT in his bed anymore.
The surface beneath him that was once his bed was now a rough, cool, grainy substance. He ran his fingers through it and realized that it was sand; black and grey sand. It was so boring and yet so fascinating because Drake had never seen anything like it before.
"Where-" he struggled to find the words to the question that needed to be asked, "Where am I?"
He slowly rose to his feet and brushed the oddly colored sand off his clothes-wait-he wasn't wearing his night clothes anymore; he was wearing the same outfit he'd worn during the day! This was just getting weirder and weirder. Shrugging, Drake returned his attention to his surroundings, and gasped in absolute astonishment at the scene before him.
He was standing on what appeared to be a seashore of black and grey sand overlooking a sea. This sea, however, was not one of water. The young man was stunned as he realized that it was a vast sea of shattered hourglasses. It was moving as if it was water though. Drake watched with disbelief as a wave of hourglasses crashed onto the seashore.
This sight was quite surreal, but it was nothing compared to the sky overhead. At first glance, the sky seemed perfectly normal; but it didn't take long for Drake to realize that it wasn't. For the first few thousand feet, there was nothing unusual, but at the end of that few thousand feet, a strange, eerie, dark purple fog enveloped the whole area from horizon to horizon. It was impossible to see through it. There was cloud cover in the areas below the fog, but not of the likes Drake had ever seen before. Where there should have been clouds, there were what had to be millions of snow globes drifting across the sky. It was, without a single doubt, the most intriguing sight that Drake had ever laid his eyes upon.
"What in the name of sanity is this pla-". Before Drake could finish the question, he was cut off by a low, buzzing noise. He looked in the direction the sound had originated from, and a puzzled expression formed on his face. Further down the shore, there were what seemed to be hundreds of very tiny specks of light, and they were getting closer. As they drew closer, Drake could see that the specks of light were constantly changing to one of four colors; red, green, blue and pink. The time between color change was so short that, at times, the specks seemed to be all four colors at once.
Soon the black haired man was surrounded by hundreds upon hundreds of specks of light. They all just hovered around him, as if they were studying him, trying to figure out what he was.
"Wait a minute..." Drake's eyes widened in amazement as it dawned on him what the specks were, "...these are living, breathing organisms!"
After a few moments of just hovering, every last one of the specks changed and stuck to one color; pink. Suddenly, the specks began to swirl around Drake in a small hurricane of pink light. The young man was left speechless by just how beautifully out of this world the display was. It was like the sort of thing that would be found in a creative writer's mind.
A few of the specks left the mini cyclone and drew closer to Drake. Before he could react, they landed on his exposed skin. He began to laugh uncontrollably as a pleasant feeling overcame him. It didn't take long for him to realize that the fantastic critters were tickling him.
As more and more specks of light landed on him, the laughter became more and more uncontrollable. It reached a point where Drake's eyes were watering. The sensation was, by far, the best he'd ever felt. he could have happily stayed there in the wonderful cyclone all day.
But the happiness came to an abrupt end as one of the light specks landed on his upper lip and crawled through one of his nostrils. The urge to sneeze was so great that Drake couldn't hold it back. With a loud 'achoo', he sent the little speck of light flying out of his nostril like a cannonball.
The instant this happened, all of the specks stopped moving and just hovered around him, not making a single sound. This continued for a few moments before Drake began to feel uneasy. He had a bad feeling about this...
Suddenly, the specks changed their color from pink to red. As they did so, they slowly began buzzing again, gradually getting louder and angrier. Drake yelled in agony as the worst pain he'd ever felt shot through his arm. He checked his wrist and saw one of the red specks sitting on his skin. As soon as it had landed, it had flown away, and the pain faded. Drake realized that the critter had stung him.
Fear began coursing through his system, making his hear beat faster than it had ever beat before; so fast that it hurt. He was struggling to keep himself calm.
"Run!" His mind screamed at his body. Drake noticed a gap in the envelope of light specks, and without any hesitation, bolted through it. Adrenaline shot through him at the speed of light as he ran faster than ever before.
He could hear the angry buzzing slowly catching up to him; the specks were gaining. Panicking, Drake decided that he needed to get off the beach ASAP.
The blue eyed man noticed a grassy hill off to his side that lead away from the beach. he turned and ascended the hill in three quick strides. At the top, he saw what appeared to be a green dome off in the distance(around half a mile away). He didn't know what it was, but perhaps he could seek shelter there...
Another wave of blazing pain spread through Drake's body as two more specks of red light stung him. The pain was so great that it sent the terrified man crashing down the hill, and made him smash his head into the ground. His vision blurred as he struggled to stay conscious. He tried desperately to get to his feet, but collapsed again immediately. The pain in his head was too strong.
"Nononononononononono, GET UP!!!" His mind shrieked. Drake began to hyperventilate as a fierce wave of dread swallowed him. The angry buzzing was deafening now, which meant the red specks of light were right on top of him! Immobilized by fear, Drake closed his eyes and waited for his agonizing end.
It never came. Not another ounce of pain coursed through his body. Also, the buzzing had stopped completely, almost as if somebody had hit a mute button.
"What?" Drake asked himself, puzzled. He slowly opened his eyes, and was shocked to see a woman standing in front of him. She was shielding him from the specks of light, and was calmer than the eye of a storm. The specks didn't attack her though, or even try to got around her. They just hovered in front of her, not moving an inch forward.
Suddenly, the specks changed color again; this time from red to blue. The buzzing started again, but it didn't sound angry anymore. No, now it sounded...well...scared.
The specks then flew away so fast that they disappeared into the distance in seconds, their buzzing now reduced to echoes on the wind. Smirking, the woman turned around, allowing Drake to see what she looked like.
The woman had to be one of the most beautiful he'd ever seen. She had a pale complexion, think frame, and looked to be in her late thirties. Her long, wavy hair was a sapphire color, but to Drake's utter amazement, it was not hair dye, it was her natural hair color! The only thing about the woman that was more fascinating that her hair was her eyes. Her eyes were constantly changing from one metallic color to every other color in the spectrum. He felt like he could stare into the woman's eyes forever.
Without saying a word, the sapphire haired beauty offered to help him up. After a few seconds, he accepted her hand and rose to his feet. Once he was up, the woman turned and began to walk away.
"Wait!" Drake exclaimed. The woman stopped walking, "Who are you?" He asked.
The woman didn't answer his question. Instead, she looked over her shoulder at him. For a moment, the black haired man could have sworn she was smiling, but then, faster than lightning, the woman exploded into a wave of silver, glittery winged butterflies. And then, before Drake could even process what had happened, the butterflies vanished into thin air.
"What? Where did she go?" A million and one questions were roaring in Drake's head. Who was that woman? Why did she help him? What was this place? Who was the person wearing what appeared to be a bunny mask that was standing right beside him?
"What, what the-"
Drake turned to face the person at his side. He couldn't tell what the person behind the mask looked like, but he knew that it was a girl because of her body structure. Aside from the mask, the girl was wearing a cloak that was a mix of red velvet, light blue, white and goldenrod, black jeans, and a hoodie that was a deep, crimson color.
Knowing that she'd been seen, the girl waved at him, "Hi..." She spoke, "...how are you doing this fine day?" Before Drake could respond, the girl threw an apple at him, striking him in the forehead. Not anticipating this, Drake lost his footing and fell. Before he could get back up, the girl pounced on him and pinned him, holding her arm inches above his throat.
"Feeling good?" The masked girl asked him. Suddenly, what appeared to be sharp, pointy, big, red crystals materialized on her arm. Alarms went off in Drake's head as he realized that those crystals would be very good at cutting things.
The girl leaned down and whispered in his ear, "If you want to stay like that, you'll do exactly what I say. Got it?" © 2015 DoormanDanAuthor's Note
