VoicesA Poem by DoormanDanWe all have voices in our heads that try to shatter usVoices On this weathered world that is my mind lies a poison well That kills whatever pride I have inside of being myself I try so hard to tell myself to stop putting myself through this hell But every single time I fail, I have become an empty shell I am slowly giving in to the poltergeists beneath my skin The siren's singing inside of my head have weighed me down like lead These voices never relent Hungry vultures circle overhead, waiting for my death These forest fires I've fed have me gasping for every breath The black widows crawl outside to play with their dying prey And I pray to god to help me find a way to escape I am slowly giving in to the poltergeists beneath my skin The siren's singing inside of my head have weighed me down like lead These voices never relent Every single day I play the game of living through today to tell tomorrow another small part of me died yesterday With every wicked word they say this current carries me further away It lays to waste my faith and places me in a state of cold decay Now here I am, in the wake of a category five grenade hurricane All that remain are wastelands of rain created by my self-hate Can somebody save me from this place? I am on the edge, about to break Erase this pain and replace my shame, these voices won't alleviate Twinkle, twinkle, little star, slowing fading into the dark Isolated speck of pale light, such a miserable sight Twinkle, twinkle, little star, side by side we fade into the dark I am slowly giving in to the poltergeists beneath my skin (Worthless, failure, freak of nature) The siren's singing inside of my head have weighed me down like lead (Outcast, disaster, pathetic creature) These voices never relent © 2015 DoormanDanAuthor's Note
