Day 2: The Tree

This is part of a series written about a forbidden love; Day 1 is the day after we received terrible news and everything changed.

I came across a tree today

It looked like it had lived there for a while, maybe 40 years or so

Its roots were strong and deep

Its leaves were lively, and green

Powerful, protective…and Beautiful

Upon closer look, as I crawled under its canopy

I could see some of the branches were not as vibrant

It was as if they were trying to reach through the dense thicket, searching for the sun

A few of the leaves were turning brown, it was starting to droop

Almost as if it didn’t know what to do anymore…didn’t know how to find the sun

 

Then It started to rain

And it rained for days

I wasn’t sure if it was going to end.

The water turned into waves along the tree’s path

And it soon seemed that maybe the tree would be uprooted and just float away

But then one day, the rain stopped

And the sun was the brightest I have ever seen

I went to find the tree again

As I walked up to it

It looked the same as I remembered, mostly

It was still powerful, protective, and beautiful

But when I crawled under its canopy

I noticed its roots had gotten stronger and deeper

And All its branches had found the sun
